Sweat is beautiful

If you are trying to get in shape, or working out for daily maintenance the one thing you can’t avoid is sweat! Sweat is beautiful for lots of reasons. Think of it as a detoxifying agent. When working out, your pours are pumping out sweat which is releasing toxins. Think about what you put on your skin daily from shampoo, lotion, perfume and even clothing that contains detergents which are all toxins to the skin and body.

Sweating is one of the most natural ways for the body to heal itself.

One underrated option to help you sweat is using a steam bath. By incorporating this into your workout regime, you will gain many benefits. Most gyms will usually have a steam room or sauna.  According to Bodybuilding.com taking advantage of either option, you’ll notice many health and beautifying advantages:

  • A better complexion and softer skin
  • Enhance blood flow  and circulation
  • Increased body metabolism
  • Emulsifies fat of sebaceous glands
  • Enhance the development of collagen
  • Hydrates dry skin

If you haven’t tried it before I recommend to always bring water with you and sip on it. Build up to the heat. Start with a few minutes and see how you adjust. Start adding on minutes once you know your body will tolerate it.

By adding the steam room into my weekly gym routine I noticed quicker recovery. Depending on my level of soreness and workouts I try to go at least 2 to 3 days a week at about 10-15 min. My skin is softer and my facial complexion is glowing. I also noticed my immune system has been stronger. My overall stress seems to melt away when I’m in there. While it is not a cure all, I’m a big believer in holistic health and well being. If you don’t have a steam room at your gym one other great option is a hot epsom salt bath.
